Morinehtar (Half-Elven Ranger 10/Druid 4) is the son of the Hierophant Druid Pallando and a capable warrior for the Druids of the West Wold and the Rangers of the North. He belongs to a class of woodland knights who were rangers and druids

known as the Shadoweir, and they follow their patron goddess, Mielikki. Morinehtar became a friend of Ithryn during the time Ithryn was in training on the Isle of Cel. He has continuously progressed in ranks through the Shadoweirs and now holds the respected position of High Ranger. It was only through the prompting of Morinehtar and Eregon Neylis that Ithryn joined the Rangers of the North.

By SA 929, the Rangers of the North leaders are primarily Morinehtar and Eregon, serving as co-captains of the small band of rangers that number fewer than 50. Ithryn remains an influential and honorable member of the Rangers, but his duties are now primarily focused on the Druids of the North.

Morinehtar and Eregon lead the Rangers of the North in aiding the Heirophants of the Cabal, the Druids of the West Wold and all the free folk of Arnor in their ongoing war against the evil of the Blood Rift, the Great Crevasse that is, or was, a doorway into the Abyss. He is a stern fellow, tall, lanky of build, and ruggedly handsome. His father is Pallando, but his elven mother Arvairë died in a skirmish involving orcs when Morinehtar was 12. Morinehtar watched as his mother was cut down, and he himself was only saved at the last minute by a company of Danemar rangers who had been tracking the orcs for days. Morinehtar was scarred by this event and has a hatred of orcs above all other evil creatures. He was ever grateful to the rangers for their aid and devoted himself to their cause eventually growing into one of their greatest leaders.

Morinehtar is a quiet person, stern, serious, and always watchful. He has great compassion for the weak and helpless of the world, and he aids all people when they are in need, even at his own peril.

Meeting Ithryn

Morinehtar met the young Ithryn Emrais at the Isle of Cel only a few years after Ithryn had arrived there for his druidic training as an Initiate of the Cabal. Ithryn showed great promise as a druid, but Morinehtar was impressed by his natural talent to track and hunt as well. Morinehtar spoke to Shadowmoon about Ithryn and asked if he may be trained in the ways of the Rangers of the North to which Shadowmoon agreed, but also stated,

“Thou mayest school Ithryn in the lore and craft of the Rangers of the North, and his hand shall grow deft and his sight keen beyond the measure of many. Yet brief shall be his sojourn in their fellowship, for his doom lieth not with the Rangers, but with the Druids of Old. None the less, let thy teaching be full, for in that season both he and the Rangers shall reap much gain, each strengthening the other. Thus shall thy gift not be in vain, nor his learning lost, though his road leadeth unto paths beyond thy keeping.”

Ithryn and Morinehtar became close friends during their many years of training, and it was Morinehtar who brought Ithryn to Eregon half-elven, another Ranger of the North, greater still than Morinehtar and more noble. Eregon, Morinehtar, and Ithryn trained extensively, growing in the Rangers together. Ithryn divided his time with the Druids and the Rangers and at first grew more slowly in skill than the others, but he soon surpassed both Morinehtar and Eregon in skill, speed, endurance, and most of all wisdom.

Morinehtar, Eregon, and Ithryn all shared a bond, the bond of the half-elven. They were the only half-elven rangers in the Rangers of the North who were predominately Danemar of the Kingdom of Arnor. This shared heritage was one reason they grew so close as friends, and it is how both Morinehtar and Ithryn were introduced to Elenye Neylis, the sister of Eregon. Elenye's love was initially given to Ithryn, but his absences grew as his duties to the druids increased, and Elenye eventually grew to love Morinehtar more.

Physical Description

Morinehtar is half-elven and half-Danemar, and he stands tall (6'5") and has the noble bearing of his ancestry. Through his mother's line, he shares in the House of Celedhring of the Tel'Uinaen, and through his father Pallando, he shares in the House of Marach of the Danemar. Morinehtar has dark hair with streaks of silver and his eyes are gray.

Natural Stats

Str 17, Dex 16, Con 15, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 15, App 15

Stats with Magic Items

Str 21, Dex 20, Con 19, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 15, App 15

Of the Counsel of Shadowmoon and Morinehtar

Upon the Isle of Cel, where the ancient trees of oak and beech keep ward over the groves of the Druids, there walked Shadowmoon, fairest of that Order, whose beauty was perilous and whose wisdom surpassed the reckoning of Men. And to her came Morinehtar, son of Pallando the Hierophant, and of Arvairë of the Tel’Uinaen, who in elder days was slain by the malice of orcs. Tall was he, and noble of form, with the strength of the Danemar in his frame and the keen sight of the Elves in his countenance; yet beside Shadowmoon he seemed but young, for his years were few in the measure of the Eldar, and she had seen the march of millennia.

Then Morinehtar bowed before her and spoke, saying: “Lady of the Hierophants, I come before thee with a request of no small weight. Ithryn, thy charge, walketh now among us, and in him I behold the promise of greatness. In his step is swiftness, and in his hand the strength of the wild; his sight is keen beyond the wont of Men, and in him dwelleth the nobility of the princes of old. If thou permit, I would school him in the ways of the Rangers of the North, that he may learn the watch of the wild and the guard of the Free Folk.”

Long did Shadowmoon look upon Morinehtar, and in her eyes was the light of deep waters, ageless and perilous. At last she spake, and her voice was as the murmur of leaves in a hidden grove, soft yet filled with power:

“Thou mayest school Ithryn in the lore and craft of the Rangers of the North, and his hand shall grow deft and his sight keen beyond the measure of many. Yet brief shall be his sojourn in their fellowship, for his doom lieth not with the Rangers, but with the Druids of Old. None the less, let thy teaching be full, for in that season both he and the Rangers shall reap much gain, each strengthening the other. Thus shall thy gift not be in vain, nor his learning lost, though his road leadeth unto paths beyond thy keeping.”

Then Morinehtar bowed his head, and he answered not further; for in her words he perceived both doom and hope mingled, as in all the counsels of the Wise. And in her gaze there was a light unspoken, as though she beheld more than she revealed, and threads of fate hidden from the sight of Men. So they stood beneath the trees of Cel in silence, while the sea-mists gathered in the west, and the first stars arose in the heavens.
